Untrennbare Verben (Inseparable Verbs)

With some verbs, the prefix never separates: 'verstehen' (to understand) stays whole in the sentence too: 'Ich verstehe dich.' These verbs are among the most common in everyday life (bezahlen, besuchen, vergessen, erklären), and learners often confuse them with separable verbs. The good news: there are only a few of these prefixes, and once you have memorised them you can tell straight away which verbs do not separate.
