Genitiv (Possessive Case)
The Genitiv shows who or what something belongs to. Although in everyday speech it is usually replaced by 'von' + Dativ, in written language and formal texts using the Genitiv is considered more elegant and correct — being able to use the Genitiv in the Schreiben section of the B1 exam is seen as a sign that your language has really reached B1.
